2nd popular walk through the Ribes vineyards

On September 28, 2025, the 2nd popular walk through the Ribes vineyards took place, organized by Fundarc and with the support of the Sant Pere de Ribes City Council, in which about 100 people participated in solidarity.

Mercè Codina, president of Fundarc, was in charge of presenting the event, welcoming the attendees and thanking them for their participation.

The route was the same as last year, about 5 km of walking, leaving the Espai Blau sports center and passing by Ribes Castle, through paths through the forest and vineyards, and by the Hermitage of Sant Pau, where participants were able to visit the hermitage and take a group photo.

Then we set off on the return journey, thus completing the circular route and returning to the Espai Blau, where a raffle was held for different gifts that the collaborating establishments had donated for the cause.

Mercè made a speech to thank the attendees, collaborators, volunteers, businesses and establishments and, especially, the Sant Pere de Ribes city council and the councilors who had accompanied us. Without them, this event, a space of coexistence, solidarity and commitment, would not be possible.

Aishwarya Córdoba, councilor of the Sant Pere de Ribes city council, also dedicated a few words to the attendees, thanking Mercè and collaborators for having organized this event, a show of initiative and commitment. She also explained how the foundation is an example of generosity and hope, which is fighting to promote research against Sarcoma, to raise awareness about this disease and to support patients and their families. Aishwarya did not know Anna personally, but she did know her cousin Alba, who told her during the walk how committed Anna was to the fight against cancer and that she was even involved in an organization in Brussels to support affected patients. Finally, she told us about the circumstances that Anna experienced when she was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 29 and the almost a year during which she was fighting the disease before dying, in a difficult time during Covid. This reminds us that what happened to Anna could happen to any of us, and this is why Mercè decided to create the foundation, with the help of family and friends, to which she dedicates herself body and soul every day to prevent other people from having to go through the ordeal that her daughter went through. Finally, she thanked the city council for the initiative on the part of the foundation to organize this much-needed event.

After the draw, Mercè ended the event with a few words of gratitude to all the attendees, collaborators and the city council. She explained that all the money raised will go to the Vall d’Hebron Hospital or to IDIBELL (Centre d’Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge). The latter, Mercè explained, has begun researching treatments for leiomyosarcoma, which was the type of sarcoma that Anna suffered from, a glimmer of hope for the future.

Finally, we would like to mention that, during the time that the hikers were at the hermitage, the Associació de Pedra Seca del Garraf offered a brief talk about the art of “pedra seca” (dry stone), which is unknown to most people, but which was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This association is dedicated to recovering the art of “pedra seca”, which helps preserve biodiversity, as well as offering training and activities related to this art and the environment. You can see part of the talk in the following video.
